This FREE event is open each day from noon until aound 11pm on Saturday 2nd and until around 10pm on Sunday 3rd May, this is Scotland's National Street Arts Festival. Big in Falkirk, packs a lot into two days: spectacular outdoor theatre, international street arts, live music, comedy, childrens entertainment and more.
This is Scotlands biggest free multi-arts festival of international outdoor theatre. Over its two-day run, Big in Falkirk attracts over 100,000 visitors to the 180-acre parkland venue on the southeast side of the city.
Headliners for this year are Capercaillie and Stereo MCs. Also featured are The Ray Summers, Young Fathers, The Skinflints, Breabach, Andi Neate, Hobo Chang (making their Scottish debut), Ben Sturrock, The Sears, Empress Ayeola, Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers, Danse or Die, Day of Days, and Carnival Collective.
Other entertainment includes Mischief La Bas, and premieres of artistic director Ian Smith's latest productions, Beastly Beauty and Hurty Gurty Man. The Dance Tent will be home to Motionhouse Dance Theatre, and Gilmore Productions. The Park Gallery hosts Screendance, featuring innovative new works in dance, movement, cinema, moving image and visual art.
Falkirk's Children's Youth Theatre, in association with Mischief La Bas and Mitch Miller, will premiere their latest show, The Fantastic Staccato Bananas. This year's Fringe Tent offers a platform for unsigned local bands and young bands from the local Rock the Talk project.
There's a chance to playing instruments including guitars, keyboards and drums plus jamming sessions with Puff Uproar and the Shimmering Sound Affair who invite over 16s who play a wind instrument to bring it along and jam!
Plus sporting activities including basketball and rugby and, for the more daring, a climbing wall, ski-slope, a bungie run and mountain biking.
Between performances, visitors can enjoy other stalls and attractions such as the Fairtrade Pavilion, Holistic Healing Area, Food and Drink Village, Kids' Fun Tent, Secret Garden (hosting off-beat performance, left-field music, installations and sumptuous food), and a festival market.
