Born out of The Bloodstock Indoor festival which was established in 2001, Bloodstock Open Air started four years later 2005 to expand upon the original idea of Bloodstock Indoor whilst offering a broader spectrum of bands and bringing more diversity.

The event has run annually ever since at the new home of traditional metal rock music, Catton Hall in Derbyshire offering metalheads a wild weekend of metal celebrations.
