The second Folkstation Festival takes place from Friday 10th until Sunday 12th July 2009. Located at the Havenstreet Steam Railway, on the Isle Of Wight. The festival has been built up from a 'fringe' group of folk musicians who gathered together to play at railway events over 34-year history of the railway.
The 2009 festival will offer a selection of local Isle of Wight acts and headline acts from the UK. There will be a mixture of stage events, concerts, a ceilidh, workshops and traditional dancers.
Friday will have a Ceilidh and concert with Tom Leary and PJ Wright. Saturday's acts include, over two stages - Shoot the Moon, Lucid, Graham McCullough, Millicent's Favourite, David Hughes, and Last Orders.
The headline act for the Saturday evening concert will be a new band put together by the renowned fiddle player Tom Leary - Limited Edition. Limited Edition's line-up comprises of Tom Leary on Fiddle (Feast of Fiddles; Tanna; Little Johnny England), Graeme Taylor on Guitar (Gryphon; Albion Band), Dave Lambert on Guitar (Strawbs), and Jon Davie on Bass (Gryphon; Home Service).
Sunday's line-up includes Radio Tones, Wild Oats, Pete's Sake, Tali Trow, Elaine Greenwood, Smoke & Mirrors, and concludes with a free cfoncert featuring the IW Scottish Fiddlers.
Over both days the Forecourt will present various dance teams including Men of Wight, Wight Belles, and The Oyster Girls, (also at Smallbrook and Wootton Stations). Plus a craft fair, buskers, and a children's workshop.
Weekend tickets with camping are priced at £35 for adults, children tickets are priced at £17.50. A weekend ticket with ferry (based on 4 in car, at least two adults) is priced at £130. Day tickets only, valid for Saturday or Sunday daytimes until 5pm are priced at £5, or £2.50 for children. Evening tickets, valid from 6pm are priced at £5 for Friday evening, £15 for Saturday evening. Bookings for the festival can be made by email to folkstation2009@googlemail.com or by phoning the Havenstreet booking office on 01983 882204.
There will be full weekend camping adjacent to the station (fortunately the trains don't run after tea-time so camping is in a peaceful, rural location).
More information will be here when available.
