The 39th Fylde Folk Festival takes place on Friday 4th until sunday 6th September 2009 at various venues Fleetwood, Fylde, Lancashire and promises to be a celebration of Folk Music Song and Dance. The Fylde Folk Festival attracts around 3000 people every year including festival & club organisers, agents, concert promoters, arts organisations etc who have come to enjoy the music and the friendly atmosphere in the various hotels, pubs and outdoor events.
Dougie Maclean headlines a bill of artists including Eric Bogle, Chris Newman and Máire Ní Chathasaigh, Roy Bailey and Tony Benn, Kieran Halpin, Grace Notes (Maggie Boyle, Steve Tilston, Tony Cox, Lynda Hardcastle and Helen Hockenhull), Ben & Joe Broughton, Shep Woolley, The London Philharmonic Skiffle Orchestra, Maz O'Connor and 4Square, Brian Peters, Strawhead, John Conolly, Alan Bell Band, Edwina Hayes, Gary & Vera Aspey, Elbow Jane, David Ferrard, Striding Edge Band, Stanley Accrington, Scolds Bridle, Derek Gifford, Doc Harvey & The Philistanz, and Zoox. With more acts still to be added.
Mabon will feature in the Friday opening concert and also provide the music for the Friday Late Night Ceilidh in the Marine Hall.
Artists from the North West are well represented by Capt Cooper's Motley Crew, The Balkanics Klezmer Band, Thistle, Chris & Siobhan Nelson, Dave Walmisley, Penny Black, Pat Ryan, Ian Gartside Band, No Fixed Abode, Hard Times, Festival Ceilidh Band, Anna Shannon, The Jaywalkers, Seydane & Rachel, Red Duster, Bruce Hogg, Hugh O'Donnell, Camellia, Tom Walsh, Joe & Maureen Nicholson, Neil Brook, Rough Mix, Paul D.Wrigley, Tri(Eire), Roger Barnes, Andrew Green, Alan Whittle, The A69 Band, Joe Crane, Spitting on a Roast, Fleetwood Mashers.
Comperes: Ron Baxter, Anne Green, Dave Jones, Ali OBrien Dylan Owen, Mick Peat, Clive Pownceby, Pete Rimmer, and Jim Smith.
Clog Dancing Masters : Melanie Barber, Linda Burton, Harry Cowgill, Chas Fraser, Kath Morris, Jenny & Cameron Martin.
Plus: Dance Teams including Leap To Your Feet Appalachian Dancers, Entertainers: Flipjack Jugglers, Fiddling Green Jig Machine, Lancashire & Cheshire Clog Dancing Contests, Lancashire Dialect Competition, Young Performers Competition, the Worst Singer in the World Competition (I'm tempted to enter), and Roy Bailey and Tony Benn's production of 'The Writing on the Wall'.
The festival venues are diverse, ranging in size from small personal rooms above local pubs to the Marine Hall seating over 700 people. The Marine Hall also houses the CAMRA award winning "WYRE LOUNGE" which features many popular real ales.
There are also various workshops held at Fylde.
