Playgroup Festival 2010

The first Playgroup Festival, runs from lunchtime on Friday 13th August to sunset on Sunday 15th August at a secret location, 30 miles outside of Brighton. It's being organised by Playgroup, a small Brighton collective, who have been running events in the region for five years.

Line-up

The line-up is secret, but involves over 350 musicians, walkabout performers, DJs, installation artists, cabaret performers and others. Several of the headliners from past Playgroup events are appearing in a clandestine fashion! Live music covers funk, gypsy swing, rock and roll, reggae, ska, dub, dubstep, drum and bass, skweee, jazz, jive, hip-hop, soul, disco, pop, beatboxing, scratching, video mixing, rockabilly, carnival bands, acoustic acts, electro swing, ambient, blues, country, folk and various mixtures.

Tickets

Tickets are priced at £59, including two nights of camping. To buy tickets, sign up for a personal invite here. There are only 1,000 invites available.

Since the location is secret, while a small number of car passes (£15) and campervan passes (£25) are available (with directions being given in the week of the event), most people are arriving by "magic bus rides" (£7.50 return), which leave Brighton throughout the day on Friday 13th August.

There's a strong ecologically aware element to the festival, with the buses running on used cooking oil, solar powered generators along with a 24-hour cinema, and various extras.

The theme of the festival is "Bedtime Stories" - and that is carried through in everything from a silly sports day, through to bands being dressed as storybooks.

Charities

The Playgroup Festival is not-for-profit and is collaborating with local representatives from War on Want, Burlesque Against Breast Cancer and Climate Camp - to aid those charities.
