Plymouth Summer Festival is back for 2010. Now in its fourth year, it brings together under one banner the vast range of maritime, music, arts and street events taking place in Plymouth over the summer months.
Programme
The four-month programme kicks off on Saturday, 1 May, with the Barbican International Jazz and Blues Festival. It's the perfect curtain-raiser to one of the best summer programmes in the UK, with over 100 gigs across more than 20 venues, featuring internationally renowned artists as well as the cream of the region's Jazz and Blues musicians.Highlights
Other highlights this year will include the British Fireworks Championships (10-11 August), the Sutton Harbour Festival (24 July - 3 August) and city centre favourites like Britain's biggest farmers' market, Plymouth Flavour Fest (13-15 August) and the Plymouth Half Marathon (30 May).There's a packed programme of top shows at Plymouth Theatre Royal including Oklahoma, Hairspray, and The Sound of Music, whilst Plymouth Pavilions hosts music from Scouting for Girls, Pendulum and Crowded House as well as comedy from Jimmy Carr.
Big screen
The 2010 Summer Festival programme also includes scheduling on the BBC Big Screen in Armada Way. Programmes to be screened live include Wimbledon (21 June - 4 July), Glastonbury (23 - 27 June), the British Grand Prix (11 July) and Last Night of the Proms (11 September) to name just a few. The BBC Big Screen also plays silver screen, showing family classic Wizard of Oz (27 June) and Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom (25 July).More information will be here when available.
