The brothers Jarman have come a long way in the last few years, from underground punk heroes bursting out of Wakefield to widespread critical and commercial acclaim. Their latest release, 'Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever' has placed them at the forefront of the UK indie scene, and it is from that collection that the majority of today's set comes.

Playing to the biggest crowd of the day so far, a certain responsibility lay on the shoulders of The Cribs, but after the year they have had, Ryan Jarman and company are no strangers to pulling it off on the big occasions. 'Our Bovine Public' is rolled out in all its cynical glory, and its natural partner 'Hey Scenesters' follows it perfectly.

Where some bands have a set honed to such clinical perfection that you could eat your dinner off it, The Cribs tend to take a slightly more DIY attitude to their live performance. Rather than appearing shoddy, this is refreshing change, and it humanizes the band. The mistakes aren't lost on Gary Jarman, who remarks "Ah well, there are enough professional musicians on the bill anyway, aren't there?" This self-deprecating attitude endears the band to the swelling crowd even more, and by now, there is little The Cribs could do to garner a poor review.

As the band belt out a set-defining take on 'Girls Like Mystery', it becomes apparent that despite the dance heavy lineup this weekend, a well placed guitar band can bring a festival together, and today The Cribs are that band. The set isn't the most polished, but who wants slick and shiny rock n roll?
