The 15th Roman River Festival is a festival of music, food, film and culture. The event takes place from Thusday 18th September until Sunday 5th October 2014 at various locations in the coastal region of north-east Essex.

The festival takes place in ancient and atmospheric churches in the picturesque villages of Stoke by Nayland, Dedham, Fordham, Fingringhoe, East Mersea, Abberton and Lawford, and a Georgian townhouse in Colchester. The venues are intimate and most concerts sell out so be sure to book early to make sure of your seat.

Jumbo and the Mercury by Carl Borges, Vive, Gabriel Prokofiev, Schubert’s Winterreise with puppett, Fiona Bevan, Firefly Burning, Ravel Piano Trio, Festival Walk, Onyx Brass, Luke Elwes, Worshipful Company of Weavers, Thomas Guthrie, Jonathan Pearsall, The Battle Of Lilac Lawns, Packing Shed Theatre Company, Celan Quartet, Fingringhoe, The Celan Quartet, Orlando Jopling, The Rite of Spring, Ruby Hughes, Jennifer Pike & Tom Poster, Jonathan Manson, Armonico Consort, The Escher String Quartet, The Marian Consor, Insight Concert, Natalie Clein & Metamorphosen, Sergio Tiempo, Orlando Jopling, Savitri Grier, David Takeno, Richard Lester, Festival Orchestra, Festival Choir, Lucy Hall and Ben McAteer, and Anna Dennis. The event boasts over 20 concerts given by 100 musicians.

The concerts are held in various venues around Colchester and ancient and beautiful churches along the Essex and Suffolk borders. Roman River Music also runs a schools programme in partnership with Essex Music Education Hub and with funding from Essex Community Foundation, offers opportunities for young people with the Youth Choir and Ensemble.

Accommodation

Roman River Festival takes place in various villages in a beautiful coastal region of north-east Essex, with local wine and beer, smoked fish and wild scenery. There are a choice of B&Bs and places to eat in the area. The area is a few minutes drive from Colchester, within two hours drive of London and Cambridge and within an hours drive of Ipswich.
