Sziget has loads of other things on offer to festival goers, as well as the music, there is; theatre, dance, classical music, cabaret, performances, films, fine art, crafts, literary presentations, programmes for kids, sports and other free time activities. In 2012 the Sziget Festival was visited by Michael Eavis, who said Sziget is "a fantastic festival, more colourful and probably a lot cleaner than Glastonbury."

Sziget Festival, (pronounced see'-get) takes place on Óbudai-sziget ("Old-Buda Island"), an island in the Danube, Budapest, Hungary. Taking place in August, the festival started as a local event in 1993 playing host to various Hungarian artists and has grown into a large European festival, showcasing over a thousand international artists over 60 stages, from many genres, to nearly half a million daily visitors, half of which come from outside Hungary.

2018 will see the 26th edition of Sziget take place from Wednesday 8th to Wednesday 15th August. That's not a mistake, next year’s Sziget will take place from Wednesday to Wednesday.

Sziget attracts 60,000-70,000 visitors per day. There are many reasons to explain the international success of Sziget Festival. Apart from the line-up and wide variety of activities like swimming, karaoke, lessons in Hungarian or bellydancing, the location is one of them. Sziget is many festivals in one, a week long non-stop event with almost 50 program venues and around 200 programs daily. Performing bands range from the biggest names of the international pop/rock scene to stars of world music and electronica, but you will also find metal, folk, jazz, blues, alternative and even classical tunes, while you are wondering around the huge festival area.

The festival is held in a park on the Sziget Island in the heart of Budapest. The diversity, quality and price of food and beverage at Sziget are incomparable with other festivals. A pint of premium beer will set you back around £1.50, and for £3 you can make your choice between Indian, Chinese, Arabic, Italian, Hungarian, vegetarian or fast food.

CityPass

Festival-goers will be able to buy a CityPass for around £25, granting free entry to the Turkish baths, spas and lidos of the city and use of all public transport for twelve days.
