Winchester Hat Fair 2001

Britains largest annual festival of street theatre and music held in the centre of Winchester, with a great mix of entertainment from small street acts to theatre performances.

People contribute voluntarily to the performers by putting money in the hat of the performer, hence its name.

This really is a community event with Friday dedicated to 1000 school children parading through the town and arrangements made with local businesses, colleges and organisations to organise and subsidise the event. But don't think that this is purely a local affair, 120 acts from around the country will be there to entertain you. You can join in too with the numerous workshops available for all ages.
