Musicport has been awarded a grant of £41k from Arts Council England to help develop, over the next year, its infrastructure and to support its programme of activities including the 15th international festival which takes place from Friday 17th until Sunday 19th October at Whitby Pavilion, in North Yorkshire.

Jim McLaughlin Musicport director said,"In these difficult times it is good that the value of what we do for this part of the coast is recognised and the economics of this level of funding will impact on the local economy in a very positive way. Having struggled to keep the festival going for the last 3 years and overseen its move back home to Whitby, the not for profit organisation can now begin to look forward to developing Musicport once again into a recognised international brand but with very local roots and a strong support locally, regionally and nationally."

Also announced are Mitch Benn, and Eduardo Niebla who join the previously announced Lo'Jo, Idlewild, Andy Kershaw, Yaaba Funk, Rise Kagona, Banco de Gaia, Amira Kheir, The Baghdaddies, Robyn Hitchcock, John Smith, Lucy Ward, New Rope String Band, The Bevvy Sisters, Arthur Brown, Amine & Hamza, Jesse Bannister's Play Out featuring Zoe Rahman, Kathryn Williams, Perunika, The Monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Mosaik, Zuros Banda, Heath Common & Carol Grimes, Suzy Condrad, Enkelit, My Sweet Patootie, Attila the Stockbroker, Varldens Band,  Belinda O'Hooley & Heidi Tidow, Moirai, Haddo, Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita, and Tantz.
