El Sueno Existe 2009

El Sueno Existe is a Latin American/Welsh cultural festival happening from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th August 2009 at Y Plas, Aberystwyth Rd, Machynlleth, in Powys, Mid-Wales

The three day Latin-American and Welsh arts festival offers music, dance, poetry, drama, exhibitions and discussions, all with a strong focus on a sharing of cultural resources.

Artists include Sofia Buchuck, Peruvian Quechuan singer with her band Killa Raymi and Welsh bard and musician Twm Morus with his band Bob Delyn. Multi-ethnic South American band Kausary with their heady mix of Andean folk and jazz fusion will top the bill on the Saturday night.

This is a small, friendly and family-friendly festival with only 500 tickets available, so booking advisable. Tickets are priced at £30 for an adult weekend ticket, Concessions(Student/Senior citizen/claimant) are priced at £25, children aged 8-16 years tickets are priced at £15, with children under 8 able to attend for free. The setting is the small market town of Machynlleth in the Dyfi Valley. 3 miles from the Centre for Alternative Technology and 10 miles from the beach at Aberdyfi.

This is the third such festival since 2005. It takes its inspiration from Victor Jara, the main focus of the first festival. This renowned Chilean theatre director and singer-songwriter played a pivotal role in establishing the Chilean 'New Song' movement, was killed during the 1973 coup and has become an enduring symbol of struggle for human rights and justice across Latin America. This event has camping at £5 per tent, with free Thursday night camping available in addition, and there are accommodation options available in the local area.
