El Sueno Existe 2013

El Sueno Existe is a Latin American/Welsh cultural festival happening from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September 2013 at Y Plas, Aberystwyth Rd, Machynlleth, in Powys, Mid-Wales

The three day Latin-American and Welsh arts festival offers music, dance, poetry, drama, exhibitions and discussions, all with a strong focus on a sharing of cultural resources.

Line-up

Kausary will be the main band Saturday evening. Plus Dafydd Iwan, Gerardo Osal, Carlos Oyarzun, Cass Meurig, Alfredo Cordal, Tradición Andina, José Navarro and José Fernandez, Carlos Arredondo and Galo Ceron, Silvia Balducci, Rompiendo Fronteras , and Delyth and Angharad Jenkins. This year, there will be a mix of Chilean, Bolivian, Peruvian and Welsh music and dance.

Tickets

This is a small, friendly and family-friendly festival with only 500 tickets available priced at around £40 for a weekend ticket with camping available. Tickets are not yet on sale.

Theme

This year given that it is the 40th anniversary of the military coup in Chile and the death of Victor Jara amongst many others; we have decided that this is what the theme should be.

The setting is the small market town of Machynlleth in the Dyfi Valley. 3 miles from the Centre for Alternative Technology and 10 miles from the beach at Aberdyfi.

Inspiration

This is the fifth such festival since 2005. It takes its inspiration from Victor Jara, the main focus of the first festival. This renowned Chilean theatre director and singer-songwriter played a pivotal role in establishing the Chilean 'New Song' movement, was killed during the 1973 coup and has become an enduring symbol of struggle for human rights and justice across Latin America. El Sueno Existe – The Dream Lives On - Mae'r Freuddwyd Yn Fyw. The dream of a fairer society.

Camping

This event has camping at an additional cost, with free Thursday night camping available in addition, and there are accommodation options available in the local area.
