The event which sprang up when Oxford Folk Festival was cancelled. The community led Folk Weekend returns for a second year from Friday 20th until Sunday 22nd April 2012 and will be based at the newly refurbished Old Fire Station, with additional events in other venues throughout the city centre.

A weekend of Morris dancing, concerts and performances, a host of free song and music events, and a huge ceilidh.

Line-up

Friday
The Old Fire Station: Climax Ceilidh Band with Hannah Bright.

The Folly Bridge: Steve Tilston.

The Isis Farmhouse: The Jon Fletcher Trio, Peter and the Wulf, and Sruiti Project.

Church of St Michael: Moonrakers.

Far from the Madding Crowd: Writing on the Wall, Orphan Train, and Rodney Quakes.

Saturday
The Old Fire Station: Haddo, Benji Kirkpatrick, Angles, Telling the Bees, James Bell, Triptych, Barry Goodman, John Carrington, Jack Durtnall, Emily Spiers and the Tunesmiths, Steph West, Giles Lewin Danny Chapman, Los Salvadores, Dave Townsend and Gill Redmond, Tandem, Tim Graham, Skeptics, Triskele, Jenkinson's Folly, and Rising Voices.

Wesley Memorial Church: Crucible Trio, Tim Graham, The Ship Band, and Hannah Bright.

Oxford Castle: Craft Fair all weekend, as well as music and dance displays.

Ashmolean Museum: Jack Durtnall and Boldwood.

Westgate Central Library: Jess and Richard Arrowsmith's, 'Off We Go!' Hang around for long enough and you might also catch folk-jazz fusion group Hot Club de Playford.

Sunday
The Old Fire Station: Mawkin, Gavin Davenport, Jamie Huddlestone, Angles, Short Drag Roger, Tandem, Oxford Fiddle Group, Ian Giles, Paul and Liz Davenport, Tim Graham, Skeptics, Short Drag Roger, Jess and Richard Arrowsmith, Chris Gardener, Steph West, Paul and Liz Davenport, Ghosts of December, Wayland the storyteller, Tom Gamble, and The Ship Band.

Oxford Castle: Craft Fair all weekend, as well as music and dance displays.

Ashmolean Museum: Wod, Emily Spiers, and the Tunesmiths.

Plus more including Clog dancing with Fi Bradshaw (from the Demon Barber Roadshow), Beginners harp with Steph West and Jack Shuttleworth (some harps are provided), and Melodeon with Jamie Huddlestone. There will also be plenty of informal music sessions around the town – some programmed, some not! There will be details and a map of session pubs in the printed programme.

Tickets

An adult weekend tickets is priced at £46, concessions (NUS/OAP/Disabled/Unemployed) ticket £40, and a youth ticket is priced at £30, with under 5s able to attend for free. Season and all-day tickets allow free admission to all events, day tickets are also available priced at £9 for Friday, £26 for Saturday, and £21 for Sunday.

There will be plenty of activities for all – including a family ceilidh on Saturday lunchtime, a concert on Saturday evening, and Morris Dancing and a Craft Fair at Oxford Castle all weekend. There will be free performances, workshops and informal music sessions, and you can even learn how to dance a schottische at the Euro-dance on Sunday afternoon!

The local community have once again pulled together to contribute to the event; Oxford Historical Dance Society are organizing an evening dance, The Ashmolean Museum are hosting free performances on the Saturday and Sunday, Oxfolk and the Folk Camps Society have sponsored events, hundreds of school children will be performing in the Wesley Memorial church, Oxford Fiddle group are playing a concert, and Oxford Folk Club and Foolish Folk are running fringe events on the Friday night.
