GFest - Gaywise Festival, 'London's LGBT and queer cross - annual art festival for all', takes place at Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Tottenham from Monday 9th to Saturday 21st November 2015.
A platform for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and queer artists. It is produced and organised by arts charity Wise Thoughts.
Line-up
The Broader theme for this year’s GFEST is '(Complacent Present) ...Fragile Future?' and the programme will incorporate contemporary as well as classical interpretations by the artists, plus showcase new visual and performance art works and films.
Visual art at the event will be challenging perceptions of Asian LGBTQI identities, Asian Future will feature new work by Sunil Gupta. The exhibition will present a series of his photographers that explore moments from South Asian Queer life sketches. Also on display are photographs by Charan Singh, interactive artist Maya Chowdhry, in collaboration with poet Sarah Hymas, present poetic sculptures that explore the fragility of life and anthropogenic climate change. These works are guest curated by Michael Petry.
GFest concludes with an evening of classical music at St Pancras Parish Church entitled Tonal Future, the evening aims to raise funds for, and awareness of, the ‘relatively silent’ world of gay composers and gay music. Featuring Gulliver Ralston, Liam Byrne, The Korros Ensemble, Miles Lallemant, and Duncan Day.
Guest curator Simon Tarrant presents work by Raju Rage and, Raisa Kabir. Art critic Anna McNay will head up a debate on Sexuality And South Asian Identities. There’ll be an illustrated lecture looking at Queer Art At Tate Modern by Tate curator Marcus Dickey Horley.
GFest imagines the future of cinema, how it represents contemporary LGBTQI culture and how this has entered the mainstream, with two days of queer films at ArtHouse Crouch End including The Surface (dir: Michael J Saul, USA), Tomorrow (dir: Leandro Tadashi, USA), Electric Indigo (dir: Jean-Julien Collette, Belgium/France), Nerdesin Askim? / Where Are You My Love? (dir: Defne Gezen, Turkey), Pink Pilgrims: Fin and Trannysformation: Jono (dir: Craig Heathcote, UK), Putting On The Dish (dir: Brian Fairbairn & Karl Eccleston, UK), Pepper (dir: Patrick Aubert, Canada), Rule Of Thumb (dir: Almog Gurevich, Israel), and Unconditional (dir: Kent Igleheart, USA) with a filmmakers Q&A to follow.
Chaired by Gulliver Ralston, Director of Music at the University of Roehampton and at Oxford’s University Church, the panel discussion Fragile Future? will debate the impact of LGBT composers and musicians on classical music, and explore the influences of sexuality on creation of music.

Established in 1999, Wise Thoughts creates dynamic arts initiatives and delivers services to help address social justice issues and needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) and Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. Wise Thoughts runs Creative Cultural Hub (CCH) activities in Haringey. GFEST - Gaywise FESTival is organised and delivered by arts charity Wise Thoughts.
This year's visual arts exhibition will explore Asian identities under the theme: Asian Future. The films are planned under the theme 'Cinema Futura', while the performance events will be falling under 'Tonal Future'.
