Rockfield Country Music Festival has been cancelled.

A statement from Rockfield Country Music Festival says:

"Unfortunately, the fourth Rockfield Country Music Festival which was to take place over the weekend of Thursday 30th May to Sunday 2nd June 2013 has been cancelled.

Organiser, Norman Crockett, who lost a leg after being mowed down by a hit and run drink driver in his youth, went into hospital earlier in February for a hip replacement operation. Norman's hip had deteriorated after decades of walking with a false limb. Complications resulted in Norman needing three operations and then getting an infection. He is still being administered daily with an anti-biotic drip at his home in Monmouth to prevent the infection from causing his remaining good leg to be amputated.

60-year old Mr Crockett is due to go back into hospital for x-rays and another operation at the beginning of May whereupon he will be out of action for a further 12 weeks - right over the dates when the 2013 Festival was to be held.

With the huge amount of work which Norman does for the festival, it was decided to cancel the event until 2014.

"It breaks my heart to have to cancel the Festival," Mr Crockett said, "and I have been inundated with phone calls from disappointed country music fans who were looking forward to the event."

Artists and bands taking part in the 2013 schedule will be invited to take part in 2014, which will run from Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th June 2014.

Anyone who has sent payment for the 2013 Festival will have their payments refunded and cheques returned in the next few days.

The organisers thank you for your consideration in this difficult time and look forward to seeing you all in 2014.."

Rockfield Country Music Festival is an all ages event which takes place on Perthyre Farm, Rockfield, Monmouth, Wales, and takes place from Thursday 30th May to Sunday 2nd June 2013.

Each year, the festival holds a Battle Of The Country Bands competition on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons where twelve up and coming country artists and bands compete for audience votes to win £2000 of recording time from sponsors Monnow Valley Studio.

The acts confirmed to appear in the Battle Of The Country Bands competition over Friday, Saturday, or Sunday are: Des Mondeo, Cowley Cowboys, Backyard Burners, Lisa Wright, KT Hurt, Memphis Belle, Gary Quinn, Ted & Helen, Jannet Bodewes & Countryline, Krystal Mills, The Grande, and Next Of Kin.

Tickets

An early bird Thursday-Sunday ticket is priced at £35 or day tickets are available priced at £12 per day (£5 for kids). Children aged 5-14 years weekend tickets are priced at £10, with under 5s able to attend free. Free camping is available with all tickets.

Other entertainment

Other entertainment includes birds of prey show, Native Indian dancers, Pepper's country disco, raffle prizes, licensed bar, food stalls, and a hog roast.

The Lawmen wild west show which re-enacts gunfights and bar brawls from the Wild West, plus line dancing lessons, a bucking bronco machine, horseshoe throwing, the Lamb National, and a fast draw contest.

As many as twenty trade stands will be selling authentic American cowboy hats, boots, belts, crinoline dresses and other western wear, which is usually worn by a majority of the attendees at the event, making for an amazing 'American frontier' atmosphere.

Western dress

Western dress is ecnouranged and is usually worn by a vast majority of the attendees. There is also the nightly prize for the best dressed.
