The Roman River Festival is a festival of French music, food, film and culture. The event takes place from Wednesday 7th until Sunday 11th October 2009 at various locations in the coastal region of north-east Essex.
Five churches along the Roman River valley in Essex Copford, Peldon, Layer Marney, Abberton and Fingringhoe - will resonate with music played by national and international classical, jazz, folk and world musicians.
The festival opens with the collaboration of two performers: Daisy Jopling a rap/funk violinist from New York and Bill Tamblyn's Quire. James Willshire, will be the classical artist at the traditional candlelit concert at Fingringhoe Church. The chamber concert at Layer Marney will include Brahms' majestic Horn Trio with Evgeny Chebykin (winner of the coveted Dennis Brain prize at the Royal Academy of Music) and Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and piano, featuring tenor Christopher Lemmings. Bella Hardy, will give an intimate folk recital at Copford Church. East Mersea church we will be celebrating the 350th anniversary of the birth of Henry Purcell. In Abberton Church Jennifer Morsches will perform two of Bach's solo cello suites.
The festival will end with a popular jazz supper event, this year featuring New Orleans, blues, salsa, calypso, rumba, tango and more from The Brass Volcanoes at Fingringhoe Village Hall.

Roman River Festival takes place in various villages in a beautiful coastal region of north-east Essex, with local wine and beer, smoked fish and wild scenery. There are a choice of B&Bs and places to eat in the area. The area is a few minutes drive from Colchester, within two hours drive of London and Cambridge and within an hours drive of Ipswich.
