South Park Gardens Music Festival is a free event taking place in South Park Gardens, Wimbledon, South West London on Saturday, 4th July, 2009. This is the first time the site has held a music festival.

Performers at the festival will be made up entirely of young people: bands, singers, rappers all under the age of 22, who live in Wimbledon, or have a strong connection with the area.

Organisers Mandy Mallen and Julian Butler wanted to put on a festival for young bands, singers, rappers and musicians who were too young to get out and play on the regular pub/club circuit, and have put the festival together with the help of the Friends of South Park Gardens.

The performers are all local to the Merton area, and the line-up already includes up and coming young band Wintermen, as well as Hugh Young and his Band of Merry Men, Astrid Custafsson-Wood, The Jazz Code, Jessica Cobham-Dineen, PaintTheState, The Jacobites, acoustic singer/songwriter Becca Nunneley, teenage superstar DJs Golden Licks and 6-strong heavy rock band Security Within Shadows.

Xfm DJ John Kennedy, known for his passion for young bands, will be compering the event.

There will be lots of other exciting things going on as well - storytelling and face painting for younger visitors.... African drummer Usifu Jalloh will be livening the crowd with an hour long percussion workshop, there will be food and soft drinks for sale, and Wimbledon music school Cherry Pie will be showcasing the talents of some of their younger students on the festival stage.
