Penkhull in Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire is holding its inaugural FREE Penkhull Jazz and Blues Festival in the village on Saturday July 25th 2009.

All the five public houses in the area, the Beehive, the Greyhound, the Marquis of Granby, the Terrace and the White Lion will host around 16 live bands, all with free admission.

The bands include, Willy's Weepers, Dirk Digglers Blues Revue, Mike Carnie Jazz All Stars, Steve Hayes & Les Hunt, The Blues Blasters, Sarah Miller & Dan Machin, The Odd Couple, Mick & Match guitar duo, The Louisiana Boat Band, Night sessions, Pete Smith, Unchained, Happy Sundays Blues Band, Johnny Slides Blues Bath. (Silken featuring Sylvana).

There will be a brief opening ceremony on the village green at 12:45 PM accompanied by 'The Ideal New Orleans Marching Jazz Band' who will then tour the local pubs before returning to the centre of the village. Street artists - face painters, saxophonists and their like will be performing throughout the afternoon. Live music in the pubs will start between 2 PM and 3 PM and finish at around 11 PM.
